Originally founded in 1980 as the California State Coalition of Rape Crisis Centers, the California Coalition Against Sexual Assault (CALCASA) was created by rape crisis centers from across the state interested in creating a unified voice to advocate on behalf of the statewide needs of survivors, system’s change, funding needs and policy advocacy.

California Mental Health Directors Association

The California Mental Health Directors Association (CMHDA) is a non profit advocacy association representing the mental health directors from each of California’s 58 counties, as well as two cities (Berkeley and Tri-City). Here you will find an array of information ranging from public policy issues and updates, CMHDA committee information, breaking news, and other educational and informational materials.

The mission of the California Mental Health Directors Association is to provide leadership, advocacy, expertise and support to California’s county and city mental health programs (and their system partners) that will assist them in promoting the recovery of persons with serious mental illness and serious emotional disturbance. Our goal is to assist in building a public mental health system that ensures the accessibility of quality, cost-effective mental health care.  CMHDA will advocate for equity and full inclusion of vulnerable populations and secure social justice as measured by access to necessary quality services that promote mental health, wellness, resiliency and recovery in our communities.

California Office of the Patient Advocate (OPA)

An independent state office established in July 2000 in conjunction with the Department of Managed Health Care. The OPA was created to represent the interests of health plan members to get the care they deserve and to promote transparency and quality health care by publishing an annual Quality of Care Report Card. The OPA has three primary functions: consumer education; public reporting; and collaboration.

A New Interactive Community for Veterans

A new not-for-profit organization, HonorVet, is gearing up to be the next- generation interactive community for veterans, service members and their families. HonorVet.org is expected to allow users to access mental health professionals at any time of day through online video conferencing, instant messaging chat rooms or phone. Users will be able to speak to someone immediately or schedule an appointment.
